India have announced a 15-player squad for their ODI series in England, though Virat Kohli’s inclusion is not yet final. He missed the home series against Afghanistan with a hamstring problem picked up in the IPL 2026 final, and he must pass a fitness assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence on June 22 before his availability is confirmed.
Few changes, one big return
The group closely resembles the one used against Afghanistan. The headline change is the return of Jasprit Bumrah, who takes the place of Prince Yadav. He joins Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar in a pace unit that blends experience with youth. Brar is recalled after good showings on the previous tour.
The spin options are unchanged, with Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar all retained. Nitish Kumar Reddy offers extra depth as a pace-bowling all-rounder. Harsh Dubey, who took four wickets in two matches against Afghanistan, misses out.
Gill’s captaincy and the road to 2027
Shubman Gill leads the side after steering India to a 3-0 clean sweep over Afghanistan, and he will want to carry that momentum into England. The series is also viewed as a stepping stone towards the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be staged in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Ahead of the 50-over matches, India will contest a five-match T20I series against England. That side is led by Shreyas Iyer and is expected to feature several emerging players as the team goes through a transitional phase.
