New Bangladesh Women’s Coach Hemp Sees Australia Series as a Measuring Stick

Newly appointed Bangladesh women’s head coach Hemp says the upcoming tour of Australia will give his team a clear sense of where they stand against the best.

The appointment

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has hired the 55-year-old on a two-year contract running to September 2028. Hemp has worked with the team before, as batting coach at the 2025 ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan and the 2026 T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal. He said he enjoyed that time and is looking forward to this new spell, citing his history with the players and the good environment as reasons for coming back.

A tough first assignment

Australia are top of the women’s ODI and T20I rankings. The three ODIs will be played at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on October 9, 11 and 14.

Hemp sees that as a valuable opportunity. He said players want to face the best so they can be tested, and that the series will show Bangladesh where they are and what they can learn.

Unity and consistency

He also stressed unity in the squad after a period of change around the team. His priority is to help the players focus on what they can control, build consistency and work together to improve Bangladesh’s ranking.

Hemp added that he rates the quality in the group, having seen the players perform well in the past.
