Hasan Mahmud made Bangladesh cricket history on day one against Australia, but the seamer was quick to share the credit. Australia were bowled out for 198, their lowest Test total against Bangladesh, and Hasan became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test in Australia. His final figures were 6 for 55.
A pace-led display
The seam attack did all the work, with Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain taking two wickets each as the three shared all ten wickets. Bangladesh then batted well, reaching 96 for 1 at stumps to finish a memorable opening day in a strong position.
Pressure from both ends
Hasan described the performance as a collective one. He said the plan was to bowl with strict discipline and build pressure in pairs, which is what happened. He singled out Taskin and Ebadot for keeping things tight from the other end.
Preparation pays off
This was Bangladesh’s first Test in Australia in 23 years, and Hasan said the bowlers had put in plenty of work beforehand. He felt that showed in their execution.
Conditions helped too. Hasan said the pitch was soft and moist in the morning, with seam movement on offer. Taking on one of the best Test sides in their own conditions was a big challenge, he added, but the preparation allowed the bowlers to stick to their plans.
