Dhoni likely to sit out Mumbai game with calf strain, GT match eyed for return

Dhoni likely to sit out Mumbai game with calf strain, GT match eyed for return

Chennai Super Kings supporters will have to wait a little longer to see MS Dhoni in action this IPL season. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter is unlikely to feature in the match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 23.

Recovering from a calf strain

Dhoni is recovering from a calf strain and, according to RevSportz, has not yet reached full match fitness despite intense training in recent days. The 44-year-old has been working hard in the nets, but CSK are reportedly being careful, keeping a close eye on his progress rather than rushing him back and risking a setback.

The positive news is that he is expected to return for the home fixture against Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 26.

What Gaikwad said

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had earlier explained the injury. He said Dhoni snapped his calf during a practice match and was then unable to run as freely as he wanted. Since then, Gaikwad said, Dhoni had watched the younger players in practice games and match simulations while slowly rebuilding his confidence. He added that the return could come next game or the one after, but would definitely happen one day.

A season needing a lift

CSK have had a mixed campaign, sitting eighth in the table with two wins and four defeats from six matches. Dhoni’s return should add both experience and leadership as they try to turn their season around.
