Aakash Chopra has voiced his frustration after India lost the three-match ODI series against England 2-1. The decider was played at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19.
A poor tour
India’s tour began with a T20I series defeat to Ireland and continued with losses to England in both limited-overs formats. The T20I series finished 4-0, with India outplayed and then dropping from the top of the ICC rankings.
Chopra was troubled by how rarely India have won series against leading sides lately. Apart from a Test win and an ODI series victory against Afghanistan, he said, India have struggled badly overseas.
On his YouTube channel he called it a sad story, listing the T20I loss in Ireland, the defeat to England and now the ODI series, and asked what else India had won beyond the Afghanistan matches.
Beware of the habit
Chopra also cautioned against letting the 2026 T20 World Cup triumph hide the wider picture. He noted that India lost the ODI series to New Zealand and the Test series to South Africa before that, saying they are losing more and winning less.
The team got happy because of the World Cup win, he said, but should not acquire the habit of losing. His comments reflect growing concern over India’s inconsistency, especially away from home, as they search for sustained success against top opposition.
