BCCI Keeps Silent on Kohli and Rohit’s 2027 World Cup Plans, Calls Talks Strategic

BCCI Keeps Silent on Kohli and Rohit’s 2027 World Cup Plans, Calls Talks Strategic

The BCCI has declined to reveal anything about how Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma feature in its plans for the 2027 World Cup, with secretary Devajit Saikia describing the discussions as strategic and private.

A continuous process

Saikia said several stakeholders are involved in the ongoing evaluations, including selectors, coaching staff and the players concerned. He described a structured, continuous system geared towards long-term strategy.

As quoted by India TV, he said the board has a well-knit team and many experts, with decisions taken in consultation with the cricket committee, selectors, support staff, head coach and players, and with regular conversations taking place.

He added that talks about the 2027 World Cup are already under way but form part of a continuing process rather than a series of isolated meetings, so no special interaction session is needed. In his view, such matters should stay within the boardroom and not be disclosed to the media.

The open question

Both Rohit and Kohli have said in the past that they want to play at the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in Africa. Even so, questions persist over their long-term future and whether either will make the final squad for the tournament.
