BCB Ready to Offer Mushfiqur Rahim a Coaching Role Once He Retires

The Bangladesh Cricket Board plans to bring Mushfiqur Rahim into its coaching set-up once his playing days end, according to board official Fahim Sinha.

The comments follow the appointment of former captain Mahmudullah as batting coach for the Bangladesh A tour of Australia, a sign that the board wants experienced ex-players involved in developing the game.

Mushfiqur has stepped away from white-ball internationals but remains a key member of the Test side and still plays domestic cricket. The board believes his experience can help the next generation.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Fahim said Bangladesh cannot afford to lose the knowledge of players such as Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur, and that passing it on is the board’s responsibility. He added that if Mushfiqur wants to coach or stay in the game after retiring, he will be welcome, and that failing to bring in someone with his experience and grasp of the modern game would be a failure by the board.

Grassroots coaching overhaul

The BCB is also reforming coaching at domestic level. A technical committee of three will assess the work and progress of coaches around the country. Its members are experienced coaches Mohammad Salahuddin, Mizanur Rahman Babul and Sohel Islam, who will carry out technical reviews and help raise standards at grassroots level.

A new grading system for district coaches is also planned, with pay rising by at least 70 percent. Fahim said the aim is to reward performance, improve accountability and lift coaching standards across the country.

Mushfiqur is Bangladesh’s leading Test run-scorer and still plays the format for his country. Any move into coaching or mentoring would come only after he formally ends his international career.
