Amir Jangoo Lost for Words After Double Hundred and Record Stand With Chase

Amir Jangoo said words could not describe his feelings after a marathon double century against Sri Lanka. The 28-year-old was brought into the XI on the eve of the match when Shai Hope was injured, and in only his second Test he made the highest score by a West Indies batter since Marlon Samuels’ 260 against Bangladesh in 2012.

A record partnership

Jangoo faced 373 balls and hit 19 fours and three sixes. His innings anchored a 401-run sixth-wicket partnership with captain Roston Chase, the largest sixth-wicket stand in Test history.

He said it had been an amazing day but stressed there was still a Test to win, and that he was glad to help the side into a strong position.

The patient formula

Jangoo explained that settling in is the key in red-ball cricket. Once he reaches about 20 after facing 40 to 50 balls, he knows he is set. He also thanked batting coach Floyd Reifer for reminding him how important it is to turn starts into big scores. Remarkably, it was his third first-class hundred, and all three have been double centuries.

Chase falls just short

Chase made 194, missing his own double. It was his first Test century since 2019 and his first score of 50 or more since he became Test captain in 2025. Jangoo said they are close on and off the field and that nobody doubted Chase’s quality despite his lean spell.

Match position

West Indies reached 626 for 9 in reply to Sri Lanka’s 308, a first-innings lead of 318. At stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka were 15 for 1 in their second innings, still 303 runs behind.
