Ajinkya Rahane has joined the BBC’s broadcast team as a guest commentator for The Hundred.
The tournament so far
The 2026 edition began on July 21. In the men’s opener at the Kennington Oval, MI London beat Sunrisers Leeds by seven wickets. In the women’s competition, defending champions Sunrisers Leeds began their title defence with a convincing seven-wicket win over MI London. This year’s event brings refreshed team identities and significant private investment.
Why Rahane
Rahane has worked in the commentary box before as an analyst on several major series and tournaments. Since captaining Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026 he has shared more of his tactical thinking on the game.
He is widely seen as one of India’s sharpest tacticians, and led the side to a famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy win in Australia in 2020-21. His Test centuries in England, Australia and New Zealand give him plenty of overseas experience to draw on.
Rahane said he was back in the UK for another summer, this time with a microphone rather than a bat. He described working on the BBC’s coverage as a pleasure, praised the cricket and conversations, and said he was looking forward to the rest of the tournament.
Next up
The action continues on July 22, when Southern Brave meet Welsh Fire in both the women’s and men’s matches at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
