Adelaide Strikers have confirmed Ben Stokes as their marquee signing for the 2026–27 Big Bash League. The 35-year-old all-rounder is due to be available for the whole of BBL|16, which stands out at a time when many overseas players commit to only part of the tournament.
How the deal came together
Stokes retired from Test cricket in June 2026, freeing him to concentrate more on franchise T20 cricket. The Strikers moved quickly after that announcement, and although several BBL clubs were interested, they secured his signature ahead of the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades, before the start of September.
Stokes said he was excited to join Adelaide and play in Australia again, calling it an opportunity he could not pass up.
Head coach Tim Paine welcomed the news. He described Stokes as one of the best all-rounders the game has seen, and a proven match-winner who handles pressure well.
What it means for the season
Having Stokes for the full campaign, from the opening round to the finals, gives Adelaide a marquee all-rounder they can plan around. It should make squad selection and team combinations more stable over the course of the tournament.
The signing is also expected to lift the Strikers’ profile ahead of 2026–27, giving supporters the chance to see one of the sport’s biggest names in action throughout BBL|16.
