Vaibhav Sooryavanshi says he is staying calm after a testing start to his international career, and looks to his return to Harare for a fresh beginning.
A rapid rise
The left-hander’s IPL form earned him his first India call-ups, for the T20I tours of Ireland and England. He did not play in Ireland, but in England he became India’s youngest international cricketer when he debuted in the second T20I in Manchester.
He played the next three matches without turning starts into big scores, and was left out of the fifth game when Sanju Samson returned. India lost the series 4-0.
In his words
Speaking to BCCI.tv, the teenager said the past four months had brought several ups and downs, which he sees as a normal part of cricket. He said his job is to trust the process and give everything for the team. He also thanked the coaches for the guidance and practice they have provided, and said he felt good and confident ahead of the series.
Back at a happy ground
The Zimbabwe tour has special meaning for him. Earlier this year India won the Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe, and Sooryavanshi hit 175 off 80 balls against England in the final.
He said returning to the ground where the team made history feels special, that he knows the pitches and conditions, and that he wants to apply what he learned in that tournament. He plans to back his preparation, trust his game and contribute in whatever way he can, and hopes to carry the momentum from his earlier success at the ground into this series.
