India’s women secured a landmark Test win at Lord’s, and the occasion was made more special when Sachin Tendulkar turned up to congratulate the players at the Home of Cricket.
Sky Sports reported that the visit was not planned. With India close to victory, the batting great went to the dressing room to applaud the team for its performance and the scale of the achievement.
A message of humility
The BCCI later published a video of Tendulkar speaking to the players before play began. He praised their effort but urged them to stay humble and keep chasing more success.
He called the result a golden moment for Indian cricket and said becoming the first Indian women’s team to win a Test at Lord’s was something that would be remembered for ever. He was confident further milestones would come, but said this group would always be known as the pioneers, and asked them to stay hungry and humble.
How the win was completed
India began the final day needing four wickets and finished the job inside the first 90 minutes. Sneh Rana took the last wicket as the visitors won by 270 runs, giving India their first Women’s Test victory at Lord’s.
