Kieron Pollard has become the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 cricket, going past Chris Gayle with an unbeaten century for MI New York. The innings took him to 14,582 career runs, 20 more than Gayle’s 14,562, and was only the second T20 hundred of his career.
At 39, Pollard has now appeared in 736 T20 matches, more than any other player, and the milestone underlines how long he has stayed relevant in franchise cricket.
A record in a losing cause
MI New York still lost a high-scoring contest at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Washington Freedom piled up 245/5, with Mitchell Owen striking a remarkable 155 from 68 balls.
The chase began badly. Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran and Monank Patel all departed cheaply, leaving MI New York 34/3. Pollard answered with a fierce counterattack, remaining unbeaten on 100 from 56 deliveries, but his side ended on 215/6 and fell 30 runs short. He passed Gayle’s mark during that innings.
