Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian women’s team on winning the Asia Cup, calling the victory a proud moment for Indian cricket.
How the final unfolded
Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India set Sri Lanka a big target in Dubai, finishing on 183 for 5. Shafali Verma struck 68 from 39 balls and Smriti Mandhana added 59 from the same number of deliveries.
The bowlers then did their part. Shree Charani took four wickets and Deepti Sharma three, and Sri Lanka were all out for 111, leaving India winners by 72 runs.
The Prime Minister’s message
In a post on X, Modi singled out the side’s confidence, consistency and fighting spirit, which he said had been evident throughout the competition. He expressed hope that the success would motivate millions of young people across the country to take up the game and excel.
A title with added meaning
The win was India’s eighth Asia Cup title. It carried extra weight because Sri Lanka had beaten India in the 2024 final.
With batting and bowling both delivering in Dubai, the performance underlined India’s strength in women’s cricket in Asia.
