India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has said he will keep a flexible, low-key approach when working with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on the upcoming Ireland tour, stepping in with advice only when it is genuinely needed.
A first senior call-up
Sooryavanshi impressed with his batting in IPL 2026 and has earned his first call-up to the senior national side. He is part of India’s squads for the T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games.
Coaching at the top level
Kotak, quoted by India Today, admitted that coaching is always a challenge at this stage of a career. Players at the highest level already have their own methods and mindset, and anything new takes time and trust to bed in.
He said the key is deciding how much to add and when. In his view, constant advice only complicates matters and leaves the mind cluttered, which is why he wants to avoid over-coaching a young player.
Admiration for the teenager
Kotak was complimentary about the way Sooryavanshi has batted since last year’s IPL, calling the execution of his shots exciting for a 15-year-old. He found it remarkable that the youngster has faced world-class bowlers and succeeded against them, and noted that Sooryavanshi finished as one of the standout performers of the season.
For now, the plan is to let Sooryavanshi settle into the international environment without pressure or technical overload. Kotak said the staff will first see what actually helps him, adding that it does not necessarily mean working on anything specific because he is already doing well.
