Ireland have beaten India 2-0 in a T20I series, and Ryan ten Doeschate has said the result left him with a sense of disbelief. The second match, at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, was decided by a single run.
How the Decider Unfolded
India won the toss in both games but could not make it count. Chasing 155 in the second match, they finished on 153/9. Jai Moondra was the pick of the Ireland bowlers, taking 3/32 in that game and five wickets across the series, which earned him the Player of the Series award.
Ten Doeschate’s Verdict
Speaking afterwards, ten Doeschate did not blame his own players. He said it was hard to criticise a group that had just won a World Cup, and that India had been beaten by a side that executed the fundamentals better.
The former Netherlands all-rounder said the batters did not adjust quickly enough to the testing conditions in Ireland. India’s bowlers were more astute in the second game, he said, but Ireland’s attack stayed true to its plans, and the visitors need to learn to adapt faster.
He was keen to stress that the result was no fluke. In his words, it was not a case of two bad days for India: Ireland played smart cricket, set competitive totals and deserved to win both games.
Next Up: England
India now turn to a five-match T20I series against England. The first match is scheduled for July 1 at Chester-le-Street.
