Justin Langer has said he could scarcely have imagined the standard of batting now seen in the IPL, describing it as breathtaking after Lucknow Super Giants’ latest match.
A new attacking mindset
Langer pointed to the ease with which batters chase huge totals and play attacking shots from the first ball. He noted that even newcomers share the approach, with young players walking in and going straight for big hits, a sharp contrast with the cautious methods of earlier eras.
He also acknowledged the bowlers who keep competing in such conditions, mentioning Prince Yadav as an example of someone holding his nerve despite the high scoring.
LSG adapt, Pooran lifts the side
The former Australia international said these changes have forced Lucknow to reconsider their approach, including restructuring the batting order after a clear drop in performance compared with last season.
He reserved special praise for Nicholas Pooran, whose explosive hitting has brought energy and confidence back to the team. Langer admitted that watching Pooran bat has become one of the highlights of his time with the side.
A tough season
It has nevertheless been a difficult campaign. After losing to Mumbai Indians, Lucknow are bottom of the table with two wins from nine matches, leaving them close to elimination.
