Jason Holder Retires from ODIs but Will Keep Playing Tests and T20Is for West Indies

Jason Holder has retired from one-day international cricket, ending an ODI career for West Indies that brought 159 wickets in 138 matches. He remains available for the Test side and for T20 Internationals.

Confirmation of the decision

Daren Sammy told Wisden that Holder had stepped away from ODIs but was still committed to playing Tests and T20Is for the Caribbean side, where his experience will stay valuable.

His ODI numbers

Holder took his wickets at an average of 36.96. Known for his accuracy and calm under pressure, he became one of West Indies’ most reliable limited-overs all-rounders.

With the bat he scored 2,237 runs at an average of 24.85, with 12 half-centuries, usually giving useful contributions from the lower middle order.

Leadership

Holder also captained the West Indies in ODIs, leading the side through an important period. At one stage he also had the job of captaining the team in all three international formats.

His decision to continue in Tests and T20Is means the West Indies keep his experience and leadership in two formats, even as the 50-over game loses one of its most dependable players.
