New Zealand will be without Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips for the third Test against England at Trent Bridge, with the series tied at 1-1. Both were hurt during the second Test at The Oval, which the Black Caps won by 253 runs.
Henry’s calf strain
Henry was the match-winner in London, taking career-best match figures of 11 for 109, made up of 5 for 80 and 6 for 29, and was named Player of the Match. Scans later showed a low-grade strain in his left calf. New Zealand Cricket expects a recovery of two to four weeks and confirmed he cannot play at Trent Bridge.
Phillips out too
Phillips picked up a side strain in the same game, in which he made his first Test hundred. That made him only the third New Zealander, after Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill, to score centuries in all three international formats. The extent of his injury is still being assessed, but he will miss the series finale.
Changes for both sides
Mitchell Santner comes in for Phillips and Blair Tickner replaces Henry. New Zealand have also rested Kyle Jamieson, giving Ben Sears a place in the pace attack.
England have reshuffled as well. Captain Ben Stokes and quick Gus Atkinson return after missing the second Test, and wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith and spinner Shoaib Bashir are also recalled.
