Australia have named their side for the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin, with Josh Hazlewood returning from injury in place of Scott Boland. Captain Pat Cummins confirmed the line-up on the eve of the match.
The change means Hazlewood, Cummins and Mitchell Starc will form Australia’s main pace trio together for the first time in more than a year. Nathan Lyon is also back after a hamstring injury ended his Ashes campaign early. Hazlewood last played a Test in October last year, while Cummins appeared in only one Ashes Test.
The match brings Test cricket back to Darwin after a 22-year gap.
Who misses out
Boland and Josh Inglis are the two squad members left out. Cummins acknowledged Boland’s strong record but preferred Hazlewood for the opener.
Batting order
Jake Weatherald and Travis Head continue as openers, followed by Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith. Cameron Green is at No. 5, with Alex Carey and Beau Webster completing the middle order.
Australia XI: Jake Weatherald, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (c), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
