Cricket Australia have reportedly put a lucrative new contract in front of captain Pat Cummins in an effort to keep him in the national setup. Australian media reports say the proposed deal would run until 2029 and be worth almost 12 million Australian dollars over the next three years.
The package would lift Cummins’ salary considerably and give him more financial security, whatever number of matches he plays.
The IPL factor
The offer arrives while franchise leagues, led by the IPL, keep attracting leading international players with big contracts. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Cummins for INR 18 crore before IPL 2026. Under his captaincy the franchise reached the 2024 final, and they currently top the table with seven wins from 11 games.
Back from injury
Cummins missed the start of IPL 2026 with a back injury but has returned strongly. In four matches he has taken four wickets, going at 9.19 an over while bowling in the powerplay.
On May 6 he played a central part in Hyderabad’s win over Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In a high-scoring game he dismissed Priyansh Arya and Suryansh Shedge, and he was named Player of the Match for his bowling and his captaincy.
