BCCI Plans August Review of India’s Struggles on UK Tour

BCCI Plans August Review of India’s Struggles on UK Tour

The BCCI will hold a performance review in August after India’s difficult white-ball tour of the United Kingdom. According to Cricbuzz, board secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the meeting, though no date has been given. It is expected to look at both results and how well the support staff have worked.

A tour to forget

India lost a T20I series to Ireland for the first time, going down 2-0 in Belfast. They then lost 4-0 in the T20I series against England, which ended more than two years at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. England also won the ODI series 2-1, clinching it in the decider at Lord’s. India have since recovered by winning the T20I series against Zimbabwe with consecutive victories.

The review will also consider the coaching group. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has reportedly asked to step down after his initial two-year term, and fielding coach T Dilip faces uncertainty after poor fielding on the tour, where dropped catches and misfields drew heavy criticism.

Sri Lanka Test squad due

The squad for the two Tests in Sri Lanka is expected on Tuesday, July 28. The matches are in Galle and Colombo between August 15 and 27, and the group is likely to look much like the one picked for the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Jasprit Bumrah missed the last ODI against England at Lord’s with a knee concern, so his place depends on fitness. Nitish Kumar Reddy is unlikely to be picked while he recovers from a quadriceps injury. He has resumed bowling at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru but is not yet cleared for Test cricket, and is expected to aim for a return in the September white-ball games. His last international match was the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai.
