BCCI to Fund Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Parents Travelling With Him on Ireland–England Tour

The BCCI has agreed that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s parents can accompany him on India’s tour of Ireland and England, with the board paying for their travel and accommodation. Secretary Devajit Saikia said the aim was to keep the young cricketer comfortable as he moves into the senior national set-up.

A record-breaking IPL behind the call-up

Sooryavanshi earned his first India T20I call-up after an extraordinary IPL 2026, in which he scored 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30. That made him the leading run-scorer and won him the Orange Cap, as well as the MVP and Emerging Player of the Season awards.

Saikia noted how unusual it is for a senior squad to include a player as young as 14 or 15, saying that after many decades such a case has returned, and recalling that Sachin Tendulkar was the previous example of a player reaching the national team so early. He said a teenager in an adult dressing room can face many issues, and that having his parents nearby was seen as a way to help him adjust.

India A incident and the BCCI’s position

Sooryavanshi is currently in Sri Lanka with India A for a 50-over tri-series that also features Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A. He was recently at the centre of an on-field altercation against Sri Lanka A, though no formal sanctions have been announced.

Because the tri-series falls under Sri Lanka Cricket’s jurisdiction, any disciplinary step would be for the host board and match officials, not the BCCI or the ICC. Saikia dismissed social media talk that the BCCI was considering action, asking whether anyone expected the board to step into the match referee’s territory. He said the referee and umpires would make the call, as a system already exists for such matters.
