The Board of Control for Cricket in India has held a review meeting at its headquarters involving the leading figures in the national setup. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman of the Centre of Excellence, Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill and T20I captain Shreyas Iyer were present. BCCI President Mithun Manhas and Secretary Devajit Saikia also attended, while chief selector Ajit Agarkar was expected to join by videoconference.
Why the meeting was called
The review was originally planned after India’s disappointing T20I series against Ireland and England. It was postponed because of the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka, and once that ended the board brought the coaching, leadership and selection groups together.
Recent white-ball results overseas lie behind the exercise. India lost the T20I series 2-0 to Ireland in June 2026, which ended a run of 16 consecutive unbeaten T20I series. A setback against England followed, adding to the pressure for a closer look.
Expected agenda
Discussions are likely to cover performances across formats, with a look at recent results, shortcomings and ways to improve consistency. Player fitness and injury management are also expected to feature, with concerns around players such as Hardik Pandya part of the picture.
The board is also expected to use the occasion to set out a roadmap for coming assignments. These include the multi-format tour of New Zealand, the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup.
With both captains, the coach, the BCCI leadership and the chief selector involved, the talks could shape India’s strategy, squad planning and preparation for the challenges ahead.
