Bangladesh’s win in Darwin came in their third Test in Australia, making them the quickest Asian team to record a first Test victory in the country.
How other Asian teams compare
Pakistan needed seven Tests in Australia to claim their first win there, and India needed 12. Sri Lanka are still waiting after 15 attempts.
Other milestones
It is Bangladesh’s second Test win in a SENA country, after their victory over New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in 2022. Against Australia, it is only their second win in seven Tests, the first coming at Mirpur in 2017.
The nine-wicket margin is their second-biggest Test win by wickets, behind only the 10-wicket success over Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2024.
The match-winners
Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers with 6 for 55 in Australia’s first innings, restricting the hosts to 198, and he took the Player of the Match award. Tanzid Hasan made 101 off 197 balls as Bangladesh reached 426 and built a commanding first-innings lead.
Australia’s target was 57, and Bangladesh got there for the loss of one wicket.
The win has also lifted the Tigers to fourth in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, with a points percentage of 66.67.
