Women's CricketCharlie Dean Feels Ready to Lead London Spirit Again in The Hundred
Charlie Dean says stepping in as England captain has boosted her confidence as she leads London Spirit in The Hundred, with Heather Knight now general manager.
MI London and London Spirit meet in the 12th match of The Hundred Men’s Competition 2026, a capital-city fixture at the Kennington Oval on Wednesday 29 July. The match begins at 6:30 pm local time.
MI London’s squad is full of international pedigree. James Vince, Jason Roy, Will Jacks, Sherfane Rutherford, Nicholas Pooran and Ollie Pope are among the batters, Sam Curran and Tom Curran provide all-round options, and the bowling group takes in Rashid Khan, Trent Boult, Nathan Sowter, Richard Gleeson and Olly Stone.
London Spirit’s squad is led by Liam Livingstone and includes Jonny Bairstow, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Dewald Brevis, Kiran Carlson, James Rew and James Coles. Their pace and spin resources feature David Willey, Jamie Overton, Adam Milne, Andrew Tye, Tymal Mills and Adam Zampa.
A strong batting surface and a quick outfield point to a lively game, although the bowlers with the best variations should still have their say. We expect MI London to edge it, and a total of 155 or more should give either team a good chance of defending.
The Oval is regarded as one of the better batting surfaces in English domestic T20 cricket, with good pace and consistent bounce. Seamers may find swing and movement with the new ball, particularly under cloud, but the pitch usually gets easier for batting as the innings progresses. Batters who settle can score freely thanks to the true bounce and quick outfield. Spinners tend to rely on variations rather than sharp turn in the middle overs. Scores of 170–185 are often competitive, and over 190 can be hard to chase, with dew a small help to chasing teams in evening games.
Excellent conditions are expected, with mostly sunny, dry weather and temperatures around 28–30°C. The chance of rain is very low, so a full match is highly likely. Light winds and a dry surface favour batting, and the warm evening may reduce seam assistance slightly. A small amount of dew could develop later but is not expected to have a major effect.
At the Kennington Oval in London on 29 July 2026, with a 6:30 pm local start (5:30 pm GMT).
Our preview favours MI London, who are also expected to win the toss.
The Oval usually offers true bounce and a fast outfield, so expect a balanced contest with plenty of scoring chances.
