AnalysisKris Srikkanth questions Axar Patel’s impact after Delhi’s loss to RCB
Former India opener Kris Srikkanth questioned Axar Patel’s captaincy and impact, and criticised several Delhi batters and coach Hemang Badani after the RCB loss.
Delhi Capitals meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 39th match of IPL 2026 with the pressure on the home side. Delhi have lost four of their seven games and sit mid-table under Axar Patel. Their latest defeat to Punjab Kings was a painful one: they made a huge total, powered by an unbeaten 152 from KL Rahul and 91 from Nitish Rana, yet Punjab chased it down in under 19 overs.
Rahul has 357 runs in seven innings, Rana has been reliable in the middle order, Sameer Rizvi has dipped after a promising start, and Tristan Stubbs has quietly impressed as a finisher. The bowling is the worry, with Axar, Lungi Ngidi and Kuldeep Yadav on seven wickets each. Ngidi’s injury is a setback, though Mitchell Starc’s arrival could help.
RCB have won five of seven and recently chased down 206 against Gujarat Titans, with contributions from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal. Kohli has 328 runs, Rajat Patidar and Philip Salt have supported at the top, and Tim David has been excellent as a finisher. Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the bowlers with 11 wickets, with Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam, Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma in support. Our preview picks Bengaluru.
The Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch is generally batting-friendly in T20s, with a flat surface, good bounce and short boundaries that push totals towards 170–200 or more. Seamers may get some early movement, but it does not last, and the pitch can slow so that spinners come into play in the middle overs. Dew in night games can make it harder to grip the ball and give chasers a small advantage.
It should be hot and hazy even in the evening, at around 32–35°C at match time, with heavy air and poor air quality. There is no significant chance of rain. A slight evening breeze may offer limited relief.
The 39th match of IPL 2026 is on Monday 27 April 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, with a 7:30 pm local start.
