Sri Lanka have qualified automatically for the first ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, to be played in India in February 2027. Qualification was based on the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings as of July 6, 2026. Led by Chamari Athapaththu, they will join India, Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa.
Who is in and how
India take part as hosts, while the other five sides, Sri Lanka among them, earned their places through ranking positions at the cut-off. It brings the leading teams together for the first dedicated Women’s Champions Trophy.
Format
The tournament uses the T20 format and will have 16 matches. All six teams play each other once in a round-robin, giving 15 group games and five league matches per side. The top two then meet in the final, which is the 16th and last match.
Dates and hosts
It runs from February 14 to 28, 2027. The competition had first been expected in the June-July 2027 window, but the ICC moved it forward to February. India are hosting after Sri Lanka lost the hosting rights amid governance-related concerns. Venues and the full schedule have not yet been announced.
For Sri Lanka, qualification is a significant achievement as they prepare to face the strongest teams in women’s T20 cricket on a major international stage.
