South Africa Women Name Three Uncapped Players for Zimbabwe T20I Tour

South Africa Women have announced their squad for a first-ever tour of Zimbabwe, a five-match T20I series that will also be the first T20I meeting between the two sides. Laura Wolvaardt continues as captain of the Proteas Women.

Three maiden call-ups

Caitlin Wyngaard, Nthabiseng Nini and Luyanda Nzuza receive their first senior selections after impressing for South Africa Emerging Women. Wyngaard, a 21-year-old seamer, caught the selectors’ eye on the Emerging side’s recent tour against Bangladesh Emerging. Nini, who has played Under-19 cricket for South Africa, and off-spinner Nzuza also did well for the Emerging team.

Their selection reflects an effort to build squad depth for future assignments. Nine players who were not at the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup have returned: Faye Tunnicliffe, Anneke Bosch, Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz-Mari Marx, Seshnie Naidu, Nondumiso Shangase, Miane Smit, Sinalo Jafta and Karabo Meso.

A rare fixture

The two nations have met at senior level only rarely. Their only previous games came in an ODI quadrangular series in Potchefstroom in May 2017. For Zimbabwe Women, this will be the first time they host a Test-playing nation in the format.

The matches take place in Bulawayo on September 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
