Sonal Dinusha Wins ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August

Sri Lanka’s Sonal Dinusha has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August after a remarkable two-Test series against India.

A series of centuries

In the World Test Championship series, Dinusha made 420 runs in four innings at an average of 140, with three hundreds and a fifty. He had played only three Tests before it, yet finished as the leading run-scorer.

He opened with 100 and 84 in the first Test at Galle, which Sri Lanka lost by 165 runs. In Colombo he scored 103 in the first innings and an unbeaten 133 in the second, helping Sri Lanka draw and earning the Player of the Match award. India won the series 1-0.

Dinusha’s reaction

In an ICC statement, Dinusha said the recognition meant a great deal so early in his career and that scoring three centuries was a dream come true. He said representing Sri Lanka is a privilege and that the award gives him extra motivation to keep learning and improving.

The all-rounder made his Test debut in 2025 in the home series against Bangladesh and has quickly become an important member of the Test side.
