Shaun Tait Poised to Leave Bangladesh Coaching Job Before Contract Ends

Shaun Tait looks set to leave his role with Bangladesh early, even though his contract was meant to run to the 2027 World Cup. A Bangladesh Cricket Board source said the former Australia fast bowler has told the board he does not wish to carry on, citing family reasons.

Doubt over the camp

The timing is awkward, with Bangladesh due to host Australia from June 9 to June 21. It is also unclear whether Tait will report to the national camp on June 3 as planned. A BCB official said they were not sure he would join the team before the series, given he was not ready to continue.

Tait was appointed in May 2025 and has been credited with helping develop young Bangladesh quicks, notably Nahid Rana, who has impressed with his pace and consistency. Reports also say Tait has been looking at coaching options elsewhere, including an interview for a possible job with Bengal in India.

The Australia series

Australia’s tour is a six-match white-ball series of three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODIs are at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on June 9, 11 and 14. The T20Is move to the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on June 17, 19 and 21.

As a player, Tait was known for express pace above 150 km/h. He took more than 200 T20 wickets and over 150 List A wickets.
