Bangladesh pace bowler Nahid Rana will miss the Asian Games. The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on 31 August that he is still in rehabilitation and will not be considered for the tournament.
Injury background
The 23-year-old was hurt during Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe. The injury also ruled him out of the Test series against Australia that followed, which was a two-match contest.
Progress in the nets
There was a positive step on 31 August, when Rana bowled in the nets at the BCB Academy for the first time in six weeks. Even so, the board does not want to hurry him back into competitive cricket.
BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar said the rehabilitation process was the reason for his omission from the Asian Games squad. He stressed that Rana’s long-term fitness is the priority.
Target date
Rana is now expected to aim for a return in Bangladesh’s series against Afghanistan in October 2026. That gives him more time to finish his rehabilitation and gradually increase his bowling workload before he is asked to play competitively again.
