Marnus Labuschagne has been retained in Australia’s squad for the Test series in South Africa, with Pat Cummins leading the team.
The fixtures
- First Test: Durban, October 9 to 13
- Second Test: Gqeberha, October 18 to 22
- Third Test: Cape Town, October 27 to 31
Pressure on Labuschagne
His place has been questioned lately. Over his last 43 Test innings he averages just 24.69 and has not made a century. The series is a chance to rediscover his best form and secure his spot in the batting order.
Balanced selection
Selectors have also named Cooper Connolly, Michael Neser and Matthew Kuhnemann, adding flexibility in batting, pace and spin. Kuhnemann could matter at Gqeberha, where spin has played a significant part in recent Tests. The panel has aimed for a squad able to handle varied conditions over the three matches.
