Krunal Pandya has said he remains hopeful of playing for India again after a productive IPL 2026 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who won the tournament for the second year running.
A season of all-round value
The all-rounder contributed with bat and ball throughout the campaign. He scored 226 runs at a strike rate of 145.80 and took 14 wickets at an economy rate of 8.41, which made him an important figure in RCB’s back-to-back triumph.
Out of the India set-up since 2021
Krunal, who is 34, last played for India in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo on July 25, 2021. Since then he has stayed a regular in the IPL, appearing for franchises including Lucknow Super Giants and RCB, while also keeping up good form in domestic T20 cricket.
In his own words
Speaking to Times of India, Krunal said nothing compares with representing the country. He had dreamed of it all his life and got his chance in 2018. He recalled match-winning contributions in Australia, New Zealand and the West Indies.
Although he admitted that being outside the national squad is disappointing, he said he no longer thinks much about selection and is driven by his love of the sport. He added that his motivation to wear the India shirt is as strong as ever and that he is hopeful of another opportunity.
His showing in IPL 2026 has once again drawn attention to him as one of RCB’s most reliable all-round performers.
