Gibbs’ Virat Kohli Remark Goes Viral After India’s Collapse Against England

A short post from former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs has attracted plenty of attention after India’s heavy T20I loss to England.

The collapse

Chasing 202, India never found momentum and were bowled out for 76. Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had made his T20I debut in the previous match, scored 13 before gloving a short ball to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

Gibbs’ reaction

Writing on X, Gibbs praised Virat Kohli’s calmness in run chases and asked whether the current group had learned anything from him. His point was that Kohli never rushed, whether chasing or setting a target, and always gave himself a chance.

Gibbs also felt the batters showed little patience in the innings and that the target was well within reach. In his words, the golden rule is that you cannot score runs unless you first get in.

The comments spread quickly online, with many supporters debating whether India’s young line-up leans too heavily on attacking cricket instead of building partnerships.

Series state

The defeat leaves India 0-2 down in the five-match series with two games left. The fourth T20I takes place at the County Ground in Bristol on Thursday, where India need a win to stay in the contest.
