Fatima Sana Fined 10 Per Cent of Match Fee After India Clash

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed a demerit point for a breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 game against India.

The incident

In the second over of India’s innings, Fatima dismissed opener Shafali Verma and then gestured towards the pavilion. That was judged a breach of Article 2.5, which covers language, actions or gestures after a dismissal that could disparage a batter or provoke an aggressive reaction.

She admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so no formal hearing took place. The charge was laid by on-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.

Two demerit points

The new point takes Fatima to two demerit points inside 24 months. Her earlier one came in the first T20I against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.

Demerit points stay on a record for 24 months. Four or more in that window convert into suspension points, and two suspension points mean a ban covering one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first.

Level 1 range

A Level 1 breach carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of a 50 per cent match-fee fine plus one or two demerit points. Fatima’s sanction sits within that range.
