Bangladesh are into the Asian Games men’s semi-finals without bowling a ball, after rain washed out their quarter-final against Malaysia.
No play was possible, so Bangladesh went through on higher seeding. All four men’s quarter-finals at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, were abandoned on the same day, which means seedings settled every semi-final place. Sri Lanka also progressed after their match against Nepal was washed out.
Bangladesh meet Pakistan
Bangladesh will play Pakistan in the semi-final on October 1. The sides met at the 2023 Asian Games, where Bangladesh beat Pakistan in the bronze-medal playoff after losing their semi-final to India.
Bangladesh have a solid Asian Games record. They won gold in 2010, beating Afghanistan in the final, and took bronze in 2014. A win over Pakistan would put them into a medal match.
The other semi-final
India will face Sri Lanka in the second semi-final, also on October 1. Bangladesh and India sit on opposite sides of the draw, so they cannot meet before the final. If both win, they would play for gold on October 3.
The bronze-medal playoff and the final are both set for October 3 at Kōrogi Sports Park.
After a quarter-final stage ruined by rain, attention turns to the semi-finals, with better weather expected for the remaining games.
