Arlene Kelly Retires From International Cricket After 110 Ireland Games

Ireland all-rounder Arlene Kelly has retired from international cricket. The 32-year-old announced it on September 6, 2026, after Ireland Women’s third ODI against England Women in Worcester.

Born in New Zealand on January 8, 1994, Kelly debuted for Ireland against South Africa on June 3, 2022, at Pembroke Cricket Club. She played 110 matches across formats.

Kelly called it an absolute privilege to represent Ireland over four and a half years and thanked teammates, coaches and Cricket Ireland. She said the time felt right to return to New Zealand and spend more time with family and friends.

Record with ball and bat

Her 135 international wickets put her third on Ireland’s all-time list, behind Isobel Joyce and Laura Delany. A highlight was her 5/12 in a 2023 T20I against the Netherlands. She also scored 601 runs in white-ball cricket.

Honours

Kelly was Cricket Ireland’s Women’s International Player of the Year in 2023 and the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August that year. In 2025 she took over the captaincy while senior players were absent.

Captain’s tribute

Ireland captain Gaby Lewis said Kelly had become a special part of the team over the past four years.

Her departure closes a significant chapter for Ireland Women, with 110 appearances and 135 wickets marking her as one of the country’s most influential bowlers.
