Afghanistan are set to host India in a T20I series that would be the first of its kind between the two sides, according to reports. The series is also expected to help India prepare for the Asian Games.
Agreement in principle
An understanding is reported to have been reached between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Afghanistan Cricket Board, although no official announcement has yet been made. A BCCI source said the two boards enjoy a strong relationship and have worked with other boards before to support the growth of international cricket.
Venue and preparation
The same source said talks have taken place with the Delhi & District Cricket Association over venue availability. Afghanistan continue to use India and the UAE as their home bases because of logistical and security reasons.
The BCCI will pick a 15-member squad for the Asian Games, and these matches are expected to act as important preparation.
A busy schedule
India are also due to tour Afghanistan in June for a multi-format series of one Test and three ODIs, so the T20Is form part of an expanding cricketing relationship between the countries.
