Sunrisers Eastern Cape face Pretoria Capitals in the fifth match of SA20 2025-26 at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, on Monday, 29 December.

The Sunrisers made a sensational start, beating Paarl Royals by 137 runs. Jordan Hermann hit an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls and Anrich Nortje took 4 for 13 in three overs, as the Royals were bowled out for 49 in 11.5 overs. Their likely XI includes Jonny Bairstow, Quinton de Kock, Matthew Breetzke, captain Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen.

The Capitals finished fifth in last season’s six-team tournament and began with a 22-run loss to Joburg Super Kings. They started well in pursuit of 169 but fell short in the closing overs. Keshav Maharaj leads a possible XI featuring Will Smeed, Shai Hope, Dewald Brevis, Roston Chase, Lungi Ngidi and Tymal Mills.

Our preview expects a first-innings total above 170 to put the chasing side under real pressure, with wickets in hand crucial.

Probable playing XI

Pitch report

St George’s Park offers a balanced pitch. Fast bowlers can find movement and bounce early, especially under cloud or with a fresh ball, then the surface flattens out and lets batters build partnerships through the middle overs. Spinners may find some help later, though turn is rarely dramatic. Toss winners often prefer to bat first.

Weather

Pleasant, mostly clear conditions are expected at 5:30 pm local time, cooling to around 22–23 °C, with clear to partly cloudy skies, a coastal breeze and no significant interruptions.

Expected scores

• 1st innings: 155–175
• 2nd innings: 150–170
