Jaffna Kings vs Kandy Falcons Prediction & Match Preview – LPL 18th Match

Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons meet in the 18th match of the Lanka Premier League 2026 at Pallekele on Thursday 30 July, with the match beginning at 7:30 pm local time.

Jaffna are captained by Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Avishka Fernando and wicketkeeper Kamil Mishara are expected to open, with Shakib Al Hasan, David Wiese, Dunith Wellalage and Chamindu Wickramasinghe adding balance. Piyush Chawla, Traveen Mathew, Dilshan Madushanka and Lizaad Williams complete the likely attack.

Kandy Falcons are led by Angelo Mathews. Kusal Perera, Lahiru Udara, Dale Phillips, Moeen Ali and Vijay Shankar form the batting core, while Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushan Hemantha, Asitha Fernando, Vishen Halambage and Shaheen Afridi provide the bowling.

Showers are possible and dew is expected later, which should make chasing more attractive. Captains who win the toss are likely to bowl first, and we expect Jaffna Kings to make the most of the conditions. A first-innings total of 175 or more would be highly competitive.

Pitch report

Pallekele is traditionally a batting-friendly ground with good pace and bounce, so stroke-makers can play freely. The new ball may swing for the first two or three overs, but batting generally gets easier as the innings goes on. Spinners can extract some turn in the middle overs if they vary their pace and keep a consistent length. The fast outfield and relatively short boundaries make scoring quick, particularly at the death. Totals of 165–180 are usually competitive, and 185-plus puts the chasing side under pressure.

Weather

Thursday evening should be warm and humid, with temperatures of around 26–27°C and mostly cloudy skies. There is a moderate chance of a passing shower, around 40%, so brief interruptions are possible, though prolonged rain is not currently expected. Light winds offer bowlers little help, while the humidity is likely to produce dew in the second innings, making the ball hard to grip and favouring the chasing side.

Expected scores

  • 1st innings: 165–180
  • 2nd innings: 160–175
