NewsBen Stokes Poised for Durham Return Days After Retiring from England Duty
Ben Stokes, who retired from England duty on 29 June, is expected to return for Durham and may weigh franchise cricket, but rules out an England comeback.
Durham host Derbyshire at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Friday 10 July in the 92nd match of the T20 Blast 2026. The first ball is scheduled for 6:30 pm local time, in dry and mild conditions.
Durham’s possible XI is captained by Alex Lees and includes Graham Clark, Ben McKinney, Colin Ackermann and wicketkeeper Oliver Robinson. The bowling options are Kasey Aldridge, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Nathan Sowter, Luke Robinson and Callum Parkinson.
Derbyshire are expected to be led by Aneurin Donald, who also keeps wicket, with Martin Andersson, Muhammad Naeem, Wayne Madsen, Matthew Montgomery and Ross Whiteley in the batting group. Harry Came, Nick Potts, Sufyan Muqeem, Jack Morley and Akif Javed will share the bowling.
Our preview expects a total of about 180 to be competitive, with 190 or more putting the chasing side under real pressure. With home advantage and a strong seam attack, Durham are our favourites.
The Riverside Ground tends to offer a balanced contest. Fast bowlers often get help with the new ball, especially under cloud when swing and seam come into play. The surface usually becomes more batting-friendly as the game goes on, and the quick outfield rewards well-timed shots. Spinners have a limited role unless the pitch begins to wear, and early wickets can shape the outcome.
Warm, dry and partly sunny for the 6:30 pm local start, with temperatures of around 24 to 26°C. Rain is not expected, so interruptions are very unlikely. A light breeze may help the seamers slightly with the new ball.
