NewsSri Lanka Great Anura Tennekoon Waits an Hour to Offer Sooryavanshi Advice After Dambulla
Former Sri Lanka ODI captain Anura Tennekoon waited nearly an hour after India A’s Super Over loss to meet Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and gave advice.
West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the T20I series with a comfortable seven-wicket victory. Sri Lanka chose to bat first but never found fluency, finishing on 147/9 as the home bowlers stayed in control. Jason Holder returned 3/18 from his four overs, Shamar Joseph claimed 3/29 and Roston Chase kept things tight.
In reply, captain Shai Hope anchored the chase with 65 off 54 balls, and Brandon King made 37 off 22 as the pair put on 67 for the first wicket. Chase added 16, Shimron Hetmyer hit 17 off nine balls and Rovman Powell stayed not out to help finish the job.
Sri Lanka are rebuilding after a disappointing T20 World Cup 2026, where they finished bottom of their Super 8 group, and this tour is the start of preparations for the 2028 edition. They won the only completed ODI, but lost three powerplay wickets in the T20I opener. Kusal Mendis scored 36 and Kamindu Mendis a 39-ball 51, while Wanindu Hasaranga took 2/32. They will need a far better all-round showing to level the series.
Sabina Park usually gives a fairly even T20 surface with a small early edge for quick bowlers. There is decent pace and bounce, and the new ball can move, especially in humid or evening conditions. Batting gets easier as the ball comes on nicely and the outfield is fast. Spinners can find some help in the middle overs if it slows. A first-innings score of 165–180 is generally competitive, and dew can help chasing sides at night.
Warm and humid Caribbean conditions are expected, with temperatures of around 27–29°C, partly cloudy skies and a low to moderate chance of isolated evening showers. A coastal breeze should ease the heat, and dew could appear later and affect grip. A full match looks likely.
West Indies won by seven wickets after limiting Sri Lanka to 147/9. Shai Hope made 65 off 54 balls in the chase.
Jason Holder took 3/18 and Shamar Joseph 3/29, while Roston Chase added a wicket with tidy off-spin.
Our preview favours West Indies, who look the more settled side after dominating the first game.
