South Africa vs West Indies Prediction & Match Preview – 1st T20I, Paarl
Aiden Markram’s South Africa start the series under pressure after managing just one win in a five-match series against India, with their batting misfiring in several games. Quinton de Kock remains the key batter and the team wants explosive starts from him alongside Ryan Rickelton. The middle order has been a concern, so contributions are needed from Rickelton, Dewald Brevis and Markram, while Corbin Bosch, George Linde and Marco Jansen offer hitting depth.
The pace attack is formidable, with Lungi Ngidi and Jansen expected to strike early and Kagiso Rabada using his experience through the middle overs, supported by Keshav Maharaj, Linde, Bosch and Markram.
West Indies, under Brandon King, have not had the best of years, and their latest series ended in a 2–1 defeat to Afghanistan. King is the standout batter and will open with Johnson Charles, while the middle order needs partnerships from Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves and Shimron Hetmyer, and Quentin Sampson and Matthew Forde are expected to play aggressive roles lower down. With the ball, Forde and Khary Pierre must strike early, with Gudakesh Motie key in the middle overs alongside Ramon Simmonds and useful support from Greaves and Shamar Springer.

Pitch report
Boland Park usually offers a balanced surface that tends to help bowlers more as the match goes on. Seamers get some bounce and movement early, though it is not as quick as some other South African grounds. The pitch slows as it wears, bringing spinners and cutters into play in the middle overs, and free strokeplay is not always easy. First-innings totals of 150 to 160 are generally competitive, while below 140 is hard to defend.
Weather
The evening of 27 January at Boland Park is expected to be pleasant and largely dry, after a high near 30°C in the afternoon cooling to about 20 to 22°C by sunset. Skies should be clear to partly cloudy with light winds and little chance of rain.
Expected scores
- 1st innings: 150–160
- 2nd innings: 145–155
