Women's CricketHartley Says This England Are the Best Side She Has Seen in Years
Former spinner Alex Hartley rates unbeaten England as their strongest side in years, praising Wyatt-Hodge’s form and the bowling attack.
Two unbeaten teams meet at the Home of Cricket in what could shape the top of Group B. England arrive after a 38-run win over Scotland, posting 200 and then holding Scotland to 162/7. It was a third successive win and keeps them top of the group, level on points with West Indies.
England’s batting has been a strength. Danni Wyatt has 128 runs including an unbeaten 105 at a strike rate of 143.82, Nat Sciver-Brunt has 94 at 160, and Freya Kemp has been scoring at 195.23. Amy Jones (62), Heather Knight (51) and Alice Capsey (45) have all contributed, and Dani Gibson and Kemp put on 61 off 21 balls against Scotland. The bowling may be even better: Sophie Ecclestone has seven wickets at six an over, with Kemp and Charlie Dean on five each.
West Indies come in on a three-match winning run, having beaten Sri Lanka by five wickets after bowling them out for 98. Shemaine Campbelle has 130 runs at a strike rate of 130 and Stafanie Taylor is unbeaten on 74. Hayley Matthews contributes with bat and left-arm spin, and Alleyne’s eight wickets lead a bowling group that also includes Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack.
West Indies will fancy their chances, but England’s depth in both departments makes them the choice in our preview.
Lord’s traditionally offers a balanced contest with a slight lean towards seamers early on. The slope and a greenish tinge can help swing and seam, especially in overcast English conditions, and batters often find the first overs tricky. Once settled, the surface allows fluent strokes, but it can slow and give spinners some help later. Tight lines and variations in the powerplay are key.
Warm, dry and mostly clear weather is forecast for the 6:30 pm local start, with sunny skies and temperatures around 30–33°C easing towards sunset. No rain is expected, but the heat may test bowlers in long spells.
Our preview picks England Women, who are unbeaten after three wins and top Group B on the strength of an excellent bowling group.
She became the second-fastest woman to 150 T20I wickets, reaching the mark in 109 matches, during the win over Scotland.
Aaliyah Alleyne has eight wickets at an economy of 6.62, and her spell against New Zealand turned that match.
