England open their white-ball tour of Australia with the first of three one-day internationals at Perth Stadium on Friday 13 November, a day-night match scheduled to start at 11:30 local time. It is the first of eight white-ball matches on the tour, which runs until 2 December.
What we know about the match
The series continues in Adelaide on 15 November and finishes in Hobart on 18 November, so the three ODIs fall inside six days. That is a short, demanding block, and it is one reason squad depth matters for England, who have named 16 players for the 50-over games.
England’s squad
Harry Brook captains the side. The group is Brook, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jordan Cox (wicketkeeper), Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Josh Tongue. Six of those players, Archer, Atkinson, Baker, Duckett, Root and Tongue, are not in the T20I squad, which means the ODI series is where England's 50-over core will be on view.
What to watch
With two specialist spinners in Dawson and Rashid and several all-rounders in the group, England have options for balancing the attack, and Archer, Atkinson and Tongue give the captain a pace group to choose from. How England use their batting depth, with Duckett and Root in the squad as well as Banton, Bethell and Jacks, will be the thing to watch.
Australia
Australia’s squad had not been confirmed in the sources we checked, so we cannot yet preview their side. This preview will be updated when the squad and the playing conditions are known, and we have deliberately not made a prediction until then.
