India begin their title defence in strong form, winning five of six T20Is this year. Ishan Kishan was tried at the top in the warm-up game and is expected to open with Abhishek Sharma, and a good powerplay could take India to 80–90 in six overs. Tilak Varma made a blistering cameo against South Africa in the warm-up, and captain Suryakumar Yadav has scored close to 250 runs this year at an average of over 80 and a strike rate above 170. Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel add firepower.
Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh lead the pace attack and Varun Chakravarthy looks certain, with the fourth bowling slot likely to go to either Kuldeep Yadav or Harshit Rana.
The USA scored over 200 in both warm-ups, though both were losses while chasing. Andries Gous, Saiteja Mukkamalla and Monank Patel lead the top order, and Milind Kumar, Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Shubham Ranjane strike at over 150. Saurabh Netravalkar can swing the ball both ways, and a spin group of a left-armer, two off-spinners and a leg-spinner could trouble India’s left-hand-heavy batting.
