Jamaica Tallawahs: CPL Franchise Profile and History

Profile of Jamaica Tallawahs, a founding Caribbean Premier League franchise: its history, Sabina Park home and championships won up to the end of 2024.

Jamaica Tallawahs are the Jamaican franchise in the Caribbean Premier League and one of the tournament’s most successful teams. The word Tallawah is Jamaican patois for strong or determined, a theme reflected in the team’s identity.

Origins

The Tallawahs were among the six teams that launched the CPL in 2013. They made an immediate mark, winning the first championship by beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.

Achievements

The team added further titles in 2016 and 2022, giving them three championships as of the end of 2024. Over the years they have regularly reached the later stages of the competition. Seasons after 2024 are not covered here.

Home ground

Their home venue is Sabina Park in Kingston, one of the Caribbean’s most famous cricket grounds and a long-standing Test venue. The ground is known for a noisy, enthusiastic crowd and a pitch that has historically offered pace and bounce in the longer game. In T20 cricket, the surface is generally good for strokeplay.

Legacy

Jamaica has produced many great cricketers, and the franchise has given local players a high-profile stage alongside international stars. Squads change from season to season through the CPL’s draft and signings, so no current players are listed here.
