Viral Video of Kagiso Rabada at Team Hotel Prompts Debate Over Player Conduct

A video allegedly showing Kagiso Rabada smoking at his team hotel has spread widely online and drawn debate about player behaviour during the IPL.

The footage

The clip was reportedly filmed from a nearby balcony and shows Rabada in an open area with team staff during the current season. Smoking is not expressly banned under professional cricket regulations, but the images have raised questions about discipline and conduct at such a high-profile event.

Earlier controversy

Rabada has been in the headlines before. He admitted to a positive test for recreational drug use, which brought a provisional suspension and a sudden exit from IPL 2025 on April 3. His franchise at the time cited personal reasons without giving details.

It later emerged that the case was connected to his time in the SA20 earlier that year, where he played for MI Cape Town. He received a one-month ban, from April 1 to May 1.

In a statement issued through the South African Cricketers’ Association, Rabada apologised, accepted full responsibility and said he deeply regretted letting people down. He promised to come back stronger.

Current form

Rabada is representing Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 and has taken 10 wickets so far. He remains an important part of the side led by Shubman Gill despite the scrutiny.
