Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins has singled out Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for praise following the teenager’s century against his side.
Cummins said he was impressed by the batter’s fearlessness and clean striking, describing him as his new favourite player. He said the youngster hits the ball very hard and is great fun to watch, and noted that a bowler has to land the ball exactly right because any slip is punished with a big hit. He added that Sooryavanshi has made a fine start to his career.
A season of bold hitting
Sooryavanshi has already drawn attention this season for taking on leading international bowlers with real confidence, among them Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Arshdeep Singh.
Cummins on high-scoring cricket
Cummins, who has come back after an injury, also discussed the growing number of big totals in the IPL. He said bowlers must adjust to testing conditions but still enjoy the contest. Modern T20 cricket, he suggested, now leans towards batters, with sides built for aggressive batting while bowlers try to manage the key moments.

SRH won the high-scoring match by five wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Ishan Kishan was named Player of the Match for his 74.
